Selwyns Travel has announced changes to its management team including the appointment of Billy Jones (pictured, right) as Deputy Managing Director.
He will work alongside Managing Director Selwyn Jones (pictured, left). Billy’s career with the Runcorn operator began in 2015 as Financial Controller. He left in 2019 for a period in fintech and insurance but returned as Director of Commercial and Finance in April 2023.
As Deputy MD, Billy is responsible for the delivery of company targets to drive operational, commercial and financial objectives. Commenting, he says: “What attracted me to return to Selwyns was the opportunity for improvement and growth as the business was still recovering from the impacts of COVID-19.
“I believe my experiences across different industries during my career have enabled the business to be in a good position for future growth.”
The second promotion sees Dan Clegg step up to become Service and Delivery Manager. Mr Clegg joined Selwyns in 2019 as a school driver. Since then he has advanced first to Driver Training Officer and then to Training and Compliance Manager.
Mr Clegg notes that his latest promotion gives the opportunity to bring experience and knowledge together into one set of responsibilities, focused on delivering best practice and being an integral part of the team leading the business into the future.
“I am very proud to work at Selwyns and really appreciate the opportunities for personal and career development that have been afforded to me,” he adds.
Succeeding Mr Clegg as Training and Compliance Manager is James Barnett. His career in the industry began with Stagecoach Merseyside, Cheshire and South Lancashire at its depot in Chester and Mr Barnett moved to Selwyns in 2017 to gain experience in the coach sector.
That saw him work on home-to-school, private hire and scheduled coach services. In late 2021 he became Driver Training Officer. “Through training, experience and the correct guidance, I have managed to build and develop skills and gain industry qualifications,” notes Mr Barnett.
“I now look forward to using my knowledge and experience to support me in my new role within the company as Training and Compliance Manager.”
Selwyn Jones says he is “extremely pleased” with the three internal appointments and has wished each individual success in their ongoing career development.
“They will not only strengthen the existing team at a time when we are laying new foundations for future growth, but have a clear understanding of the culture and needs of the business.” Selwyns Travel recently made significant investments in new Mercedes-Benz Tourismo coaches and Alexander Dennis Enviro400 double-decker buses.
