Stagecoach South Wales Engineering Director Peter Henry is retiring after 15 years with the company.

Peter first began his career working as an apprentice mechanic at Dutton-Forshaw in Liverpool in 1978 before moving to MPTE Buses in 1982. There he was responsible for MoT preparations at various depots in Liverpool, and settled at Gillmoss bus depot the following year as a chargehand.

In 2005, the company, which had become Glenvale Transport, was acquired by Stagecoach. Peter was promoted to Workshop Manager at Morecambe depot in 2008 then Preston depot in 2010. He was promoted to Engineering Manager at Preston depot in 2011, and finally at Gillmoss depot in 2015. That same year he was made Engineering Director for Stagecoach South Wales.

As Engineering Director, Peter led an engineering team of over 100 staff. Together they operated around 350 buses in the region. Under Peter, the company increased its passenger base, adopted green initiatives, launched 48 brand new Gold service buses, and introduced a bonus scheme for engineering staff across South Wales.

Peter is followed by Jamie Lean, Engineering Director Stagecoach South Wales

His position will be filled by Jamie Lean, who brings experience from engineering roles in British Steel, Tata Steel UK Corporate Engineering and the food industry.

Managing Director for Stagecoach South Wales Nigel Winter says: “Peter has been part of the Stagecoach family for many years and he will be sorely missed by all of his engineering colleagues and head office staff alike.

“I wish him all the best in his retirement and I’d like to wish our newest member Jamie all the luck and success in his new role.”

Jamie adds: “Peter has laid a solid foundation within South Wales engineering and this will be a huge benefit to myself as I transition into the business and into a new sector.”
