Stagecoach will provide free travel on VE Day 80 on Thursday 8 May to serving members of the military wearing their uniform or carrying a military ID card, to veterans carrying a medal or a veteran’s badge, and to cadets.
It represents a continuation of the group’s support for the armed forces and will help more serving members of the military and veterans to access the public concerts, exhibitions and street parties that will take place across the UK.
The offer applies to all Stagecoach services except those operated under contract to Transport for London or Transport for Greater Manchester and Megabus routes.
The initiative is backed by Stagecoach’s employee-led Veterans Network, which was created to unite colleagues with shared experiences, amplify their voices, drive positive change, and help to shape business decisions.
Stagecoach has previously provided free travel for the armed forces community over Armed Forces Weekends and Remembrance Days.
The operator has been a member of the Armed Forces Covenant since 2015. That scheme recognises the value to the country and businesses across the UK of regular and reservist serving military members, veterans, and military families.
Speaking about the free travel for VE Day 80, CEO Claire Miles says: “We are incredibly proud to employ many veterans, and it is a privilege to recognise the bravery and dedication of our armed forces, cadets, and veterans.
“Offering free travel on VE Day 80 is a small gesture of appreciation for the enormous contribution made by our servicemen and women, past and present.”
