‘No mention of our contribution’

Was I the only one who read the letter from Ms Rock of Goodyear Tyres with a certain incredulity?

With the number of teenagers not learning to drive falling by nearly 30% in the last decade, she is right to highlight the alternatives for travelling around our towns and cities.

She mentions alternatives including driverless cars, and the extra time that will be taken by parents operating the family taxi.

But no mention whatsoever of the contribution that the coach and bus industry makes to the transport of youngsters, and the greater contribution that it could make.

And this from a person writing in the name of a company that has made (and may well still make) much of its money over many decades from the coach and bus industry worldwide.
