Abellio London adopts fingerprint drug testing kit

Abellio London has adopted a new, non-invasive fingerprint-based drug testing solution from Intelligent Fingerprinting.

It delivers testing that is quicker and more dignified that the traditional urine screening, and the portability of the product will allow Abellio to utilise it at any of its six depots.

The kit works by collecting and analysing fingerprint samples to detect commonly abused drugs or their metabolites. Those substances are detectable in the minute amounts of sweat present in the traces of a fingerprint.

Fingerprint testing is easy to use, and it gives a hygienic and dignified means of supporting a wide range of workplace drug testing scenarios, from pre-employment screening and random tests to for-cause and post-incident investigations.

The technology gives a short window of detection, meaning a positive result is likely to indicate that the member of staff has taken drugs in the period immediately before starting their shift.

Screening methods, such as urine tests, have a longer window of detection. They may detect drug use from several days earlier even though the employee is no longer under the influence when they provide a sample.
