East Riding of Yorkshire Council is using the CitySwift Decision Intelligence platform to accurately track bus patronage to ensure the area’s bus network meets passenger needs. The work forms part of an Enhanced Partnership (EP) involving the local authority and bus operators.
The platform will allow the local authority to:
- Analyse punctuality and compliance to save time within the network and ensure accuracy of investment decisions
- Identify where congestion has the biggest impact to enable implementation of focused bus priority
- Understand usage patterns to a stop-level, allowing it to introduce infrastructure such as bus shelters and real-time displays.
Funding allocated to East Riding of Yorkshire Council via the first round of Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) Plus awards in May 2023 is being invested in both protecting and developing bus services in the area. The EP work aims to restore bus usage to pre-pandemic levels. An identical amount of BSIP Plus money has since been allocated for FY2024/25.
Speaking about the use of CitySwift technology, the local authority’s Transportation Services Group Manager Colin Walker says: “Collaborating effectively with local bus operators is crucial to delivering the key objectives set out in our BSIP.
“CitySwift will provide our EP with the data-based insights we need to make informed decisions that will support socially necessary bus services and the successful delivery of our plans to grow the East Riding bus network.”
Adds CitySwift Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer Alan Farrelly: “Our partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council is a significant one for CitySwift, as we continue our UK expansion into local transport authorities.
“Providing those authorities with reliable, accurate, data-based insights to execute BSIP objectives unlocks their ability to deliver a service that truly meets passenger needs.”
