Novadata has introduced a JAUPT-approved Driver CPC (DCPC) course called The Terrorist Threat and Driver Security.

The module is suitable for coach and bus drivers as well as those in the LGV sector. It is part of Novadata’s expanded e-portfolio of training. The course is also expected to be available in the classroom as soon as face-to-face DCPC training is once again permitted, Novadata says.

Examined are the potential threats from terrorist and organised crime activity and the implications that they have on the safety of drivers, passengers and the general public. Training outlines the responsibilities of drivers in remaining vigilant and observing potentially suspicious behaviour.

The course also raises awareness of how to take action to minimise danger and maximise safety. Explained are the appropriate measures to take in order to major on vehicle security, and the possible consequences of failing to spot and act upon suspicious behaviour.

Guarding against clandestine passengers when crossing an international border is also explained, as is the role of Border Control and the penalties for being caught with a such a passenger. Checks that should be made following overnight parking are covered, along with the impact of theft or hijack of the vehicle.

Says Novadata Chairman Derek Broomfield: “Unfortunately, terrorism and organised crime are present threats to the transport industry. It is often drivers that find themselves on the front line.

“However, there are steps that they can take to minimise the risks of incidents of this nature. Our DCPC course will equip drivers with the knowledge that they need to be more vigilant and enable them to be confident in taking the best course of action when they observe anything suspicious.”
