Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company (PPG) has introduced a new disinfectant solution, D20R, to support industrial applications in the fight against coronavirus COVID-19.

PPG says the new ready-to-use solution is proven to kill the toughest viruses and bacteria. This includes enveloped virus SARS-CoV-2, which causes coronavirus COVID-19.

The solution should be left on a surface for five minutes, then wiped with a clean cloth, mop or sponge.

The active agent in D20R is a quaternary ammonium compound, recognised by the World Health Organisation as effective in deactivating viruses such as SARS CoV-2. It works by breaking down membranes of the virus. The product is qualified to EN14476, EN1276 and EN13697 standards, water-based, non-hazardous, non-flammable, non-abrasive, non-corrosive, and odourless. PPG says it will ensure the product passes national biocidal registrations before it reaches customers.

D20R has been developed with PPG’s expertise in chemical products for industrial applications. It will be available in large quantities and at ‘the most affordable price on the market’ the company says. PPG adds that it has taken ‘great care… to ensure it is safe to use and compatible with a wide range of materials and environments found in the industrial sector’. This includes hard surfaces such as floors, walls, furniture, and high-touch surfaces can be cleaned via a wipe or spray application.

D20R is now available in a five-litre pack size. This can be used to fill clean bottles with spray-pump heads. It should be used as part of a formalised hygiene regime adhering to best practice guidelines.
