Queclink Wireless Solutions has launched a 5G router for the coach and bus market. The unit will support internet access, onboard entertainment and mobile payment processing while also underpinning advanced telematics, driver communications and functionality within passenger information systems, the supplier says.
It adds that 5G’s low latency and enhanced bandwidth allows the router to transmit data simultaneously from multiple systems, sensors and devices. The product also uses a high-specification Qualcomm CPU chip for advanced processing performance and stability.
Monitoring and understanding driver behaviour and vehicle performance by coach and bus operators will come with “far greater insights” via the 5G router, Queclink continues.
The unit has what the supplier says is the most comprehensive range of connectivity options, including wi-fi 6. Most devices currently offer only wi-fi 5, it continues.
Also within the router are Bluetooth Low Energy and RS232/RS485 ports. That enables the integration of sophisticated features, functionality, and ancillary equipment such as Internet of Things sensors, monitors, and cameras.
Speaking about the new product, Queclink Wireless Solutions UK Sales Director Vernon Bonser says: “Modern passenger transport operators increasingly need real-time fleet data processing and communication capability to enhance the customer experience, achieve operational efficiency, and gain competitive advantage.
“We have developed a 5G router solution that offers premium quality and unique features at an affordable price to cope with the complex connectivity and communication needs of a wider range of passenger, driver and business applications.”
Mr Bonser points to a successful earlier launch of an all-in-one smart dashcam into the coach and bus market as evidence of the supplier’s commitment. He claims that it has “become one of the most popular video telematics devices over the past 18 months.”
