Vix Technology will deliver the largest real-time bus passenger information display upgrade in London for over a decade after selection by Transport for London (TfL) via a competitive tendering process.
The supplier is to upgrade the existing display estate and provide what it says is “a facility by which TfL could deliver future initiatives.” Next-generation LED, e-paper and TFT displays will potentially be rolled out, with those long-life, battery-powered solutions expected to help provide “sustainable and energy efficient solutions.”
Despite that, the supplier says that a flexible approach will see existing displays upgraded wherever possible to align with TfL’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.
Part of the upgrade is use of Vix’s display management back-office system. That platform supports various display types from different vendors in one place, giving visibility and control over all display and stop information.
Rollout is scheduled to start with a pilot on winter 2025, with full deployment expected to complete in 2027.
“The new technology allows for legacy hardware to be integrated and provides the option to add new displays to the estate, keeping waste and disruption from new installations to a minimum,” Vix says. It adds that the unified system will be the largest implementation of the RTIG T047 standard for display management.
Speaking about the agreement with TfL, Vix Technology Chief Revenue Officer Michael Hart says: “We are excited to work with Transport for London on this major upgrade to real-time passenger information.
“Many more people across the city will have access to clear, reliable travel updates, making everyday journeys easier. This is about giving Londoners a better experience today while building a greener, smarter, more connected transport network for the future.”
