The world’s largest supplier of pure electric buses, BYD, has revealed its own Manifesto ahead of June’s General Election.

The company – which has been working with its UK industry partners and government at all levels to begin the process of electrifying the UK vehicle fleet – has published a five-point plan of changes for the next Parliament.

Speaking about what inspired the Manifesto, Frank Thorpe, BYD’s UK Country Manager, says: “At a time when the Government published its Draft Air Quality Plan and Manifestos are front of mind for everyone, we thought it was appropriate for us to set out the steps required for widespread implementation of emissions free electric buses.”

The Manifesto from BYD states that the government should, “Declare zero emissions a national priority and clarify the UK's long-term direction; Establish a strong and ambitious Clean Air Zone framework; Set clear targets for the uptake of zero emission buses in our city centers’; …enabled by an ambitious policy framework; and vastly increase the number of charge points and make them rapid.”

The company believes that the widespread electrification of British road transport is the only practical solution to the UK's air quality crisis.
