Steve Whiteway has been named by the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) as its President for 2020.

A long-serving and well-known senior industry figure, Mr Whiteway was unanimously voted in by fellow members of CPT Council earlier this week. He will take over from Martin Dean on Thursday 30 January at CPT’s annual dinner in London.

Mr Dean has held the position for a two-year period because of CPT’s now-completed restructuring process. He will remain part of the Confederation’s management structure as Chairman.

Says Mr Whiteway: “I am honoured to have been appointed CPT President for 2020 by my industry colleagues. As a long-standing CPT member, and having spent a lifetime in coaches and buses, I know that 2020 will represent another challenging year for our industry.

“I believe the best way to address the challenges that we face is by working together with industry partners and stakeholders.

“CPT’s recently launched Bus Strategy, along with our forthcoming vision for coaches, provide the ideal platform for us to highlight the valuable contribution that the industry makes to society.”

When installed, Mr Whiteway will serve his second term as CPT President. He first held the position in 2010/11.

Adds Chief Executive Graham Vidler: “I am delighted that Steve Whiteway has agreed to take on the role of CPT President, and that Martin will continue as Chairman of the organisation.

“Along with the CPT team, I very much look forward to working closely with them. We will continue to represent the interests of our members while further raising the profile of coaches and buses across UK governments and in the media.”
