An inquiry examining the reasons for the decline in bus use in England, outside London, will take place in Westminster on 30 October.

Passenger groups and academics including: Claire Haigh, CEO Greener Journeys; Linda McCord, Senior Stakeholder Manager, Transport Focus; Darren Shirley, CEO, Campaign for Better Transport; Claire Walters, CEO Bus Users UK, will face questioning about the health of the bus market.

Buses accounted for 5% of all journeys in the UK in 2016 – the highest percentage for any form of public transport – but annual journeys per person in cities outside the capital have fallen by 40% over the last 25 years.

This session will focus on the reasons behind the fall in numbers, what the priorities should be for bus services and how the future bus market might look.
