Mellor’s fully-accessible low-floor Orion E, which is battery powered, has entered service for the first time in the UK with National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) on a shuttle service between its three Edinburgh sites.
It operates a circular route seven days per week. The use of a zero-emission minibus is part of NGS’s commitment to promoting green tourism and reducing its carbon emissions.
Says Mellor MD John Randerson: “It is exciting for the team at Mellor to see our Orion E entering service for the first time, and we are confident that NGS, drivers and passengers alike will be blown away by its performance, ride and quiet, emission-free operation.
“A great deal of hard work went into the conception, development and launch of this bus, which involved our technicians and engineers along with the sales and marketing team.
“With impressive green credentials, I am certain that this will be the first in a long line of Orion Es to be deployed in towns and cities around the UK and Europe.”
NGS comprises the Scottish National Gallery, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
