Scania has enhanced its battery-electric bus driveline with the introduction of a latest range of new motors and battery and charging options.
Four new motors are part of that work with power outputs ranging from 240kW to 330kW. Those suit a variety of operating conditions, giving customers more flexibility than before, the manufacturer says.
A three-battery pack option of 312kWh also debuts along with a second, rear charging interface to allow operators to use fast chargers on those vehicles. In the latter case, charging will be possible at up to 325kW. At present, the front connection can accept up to 130kW.
A further development is introduction of choice between a two- or four-speed gearbox in conjunction with the new motors. That combination will “improve the efficiency and driveability of the vehicle, even under challenging conditions such as hill starts or heavy-duty operations,” Scania notes.
The first Scania battery-electric bus for the UK is awaited but the manufacturer has sold those products in other markets. The line-up here will not include a double-deck bus, it was confirmed in 2024.
Commenting on the battery-electric driveline development, Scania Head of Urban Solutions for People Transport Solutions Anna Stallberg says: “We know that bus operators face the push-pull effect of responding to emission regulations while striving to meet the specific demands of electric operations.
“Power needs, flexibility, charging time, energy efficiency and operational range are some of the key factors.
“The new e-machine, battery and charging options have been developed and are being introduced with our customers’ challenges in mind and respond to both their and our sustainability goals.”
