Trentbarton driver, Craig Colgate (pictured), was named hero of the year at the operator’s really good service awards.

Craig received the award after ‘amazing’ a mum and her deaf twins when he used sign language to reply to their question on what his favourite bus colour is to drive.

The mum said Craig made the day for her 10-year-old twins. She wrote to trentbarton: “When I asked Craig why he knows sign language, I was even more amazed when he told me that he taught himself basic sign language a few years back to help communicate with a customer who was hard of hearing.”

Other winners on the night included: Driver of the year, James Kearney; A special recognition award for Dave Lee, a traffic officer based at Derby Bus Station; Colleague choice, voted for by the Trentbarton team went to Ashley Woodhouse; Engineer of the year, Carl Pilkington; and apprentice of the year, Ryan Nolan.

Trentbarton MD Jeff Counsell says: “It’s fantastic to celebrate the good work our colleagues do, to make us what we are – the really good bus company, with the highest scoring drivers in the country.”
