McGill’s has started a fully-commercial demand responsive transport (DRT) service.
Called Connect&Go! and using a new low-floor Mercedes-Benz Mellor Strata it can be with customers in 10 minutes or less to link to connecting McGill’s buses, trains or ferries at Wemyss Bay.
It will pick up and drop customers off as close as possible to their location within the Upper Skelmorlie area. Through single and return tickets can be bought on bus and McGill’s GoZone tickets are accepted. Scottish concession card holders are eligible to travel also.
The service operates Monday-Friday 0730-1730hrs and Saturdays 0745-1730hrs. Initially booking are made by calling 01475 600 001. A mobile booking app will follow soon.
McGill’s runs 400 buses on 110 routes from depots in Greenock, Barrhead, Blantyre, Inchinnan and Johnstone.
McGill’s MD Ralph Roberts says: “We’re proud to be launching this ground-breaking service; it means that the bus will be with customers within 10 minutes of their call, what could be more convenient! Through ticketing will be on offer for customers travelling beyond Wemyss Bay.
“There will be no extra cost to passengers using this service and customers can book their return journey at the same time.”
“Residents of Upper Skelmorlie won’t need to stand at a cold bus stop now that they can call their Connect&Go!; it’s safe, convenient and offers great value – we’re confident people will enjoy the benefits of this new on-demand service.”
