Andrew Wickham, Managing Director of Go South Coast, has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s New Year’s Honours list for contributions to the bus industry, recognising a career that spans nearly four decades.
Andrew is believed to be the only representative from the UK coach and bus industry recognised in this year’s honours, of which there were more than 1,200 recipients across all sectors.
Andrew first entered the sector while studying at Aston University in 1987 with a BSc (Hons) in Transport Operation and Planning, when he joined Brighton Borough Transport. Over the years he went on to hold prominent roles in London General Transport Services and Plymouth Citybus before taking the helm at Damory, part of Go South Coast, in 2011.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (FCILT), Andrew helped the company navigate the COVID-19 pandemic while fostering partnership with local authorities and other stakeholders to drive up the popularity of bus travel in his region.
“I am delighted and humbled to have been recognised with an MBE — and proud that my long career and dedication to the bus industry has been recognised in such a prestigious way,” he says. “Above all, my own success has been underpinned by the skill and perseverance of my colleagues — past and present. I would like to thank them for the support and dedication they have shown me over the course of my career.”
