Staff from Harrogate Bus Company took part in a four-mile walk along their own route 1 from Harrogate to Knaresborough to raise money for Yorkshire Cancer Research last Saturday (24 May).
Henri Rohard, Managing Director of parent company Transdev, and Harrogate Bus Company Operations Director Vitto Pizzuti joined the team of 12, who raised nearly £400 en route for the cancer charity’s “We Walk for Yorkshire” campaign.
The donations bolstered funds for a campaign which is over half way towards reaching its £100,000 target.
Mr Rohard says: “Yorkshire Cancer Research became our charity partner just over a year ago and, since then, we’ve helped in various ways to raise awareness of the world-leading research and services funded by them to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer in our region.
“Any colleague and public awareness on cancer prevention is vital and, of course, every penny raised during the We Walk for Yorkshire campaign is going to support this vital, life-saving work, and as a team we were determined to help and to support.
“We’ve already raised almost £400 from donations collected along the route of the walk and afterwards, and we appreciate every penny we’ve received.
“Our route 1 electric buses travel between Harrogate and Knaresborough every 8 to 10 minutes, and complete the journey in as little as 13 minutes. We didn’t quite manage that pace on foot, but I’m very proud of our team who completed the challenge for this excellent cause.”
The team are welcoming further donations online.
