Reading Buses raised its biggest ever amount for its charity of the year at its recent open day.
The operator announced a collection of £12,000 for the Royal Berks Charity at the free event on 30 June when member of the public attended the Great Knollys Street depot.
A record attendance of thousands of bus enthusiasts and family groups carried the total over £10,000 for the first time.
Vintage buses and a new Alexander Dennis (ADL) electric demonstrator bus were on display as people got to sit in the driver seats and play games.
Reading Buses says the site was full of people from when it opened at 11am until the buses left at 4pm.
Robert Williams, Reading Buses’ Chief Executive Officer, says: “We were astounded by the amount of people who attended this year. All the stalls were busy from start to finish – our behind-the-scenes tours sold out incredibly quickly, and there were nearly a thousand customers who went through the bus wash!”
Mr Williams also thanked sponsors ADL, Ticketer, Dawson Group, R2P, EPM Omnibus, Michelin, Personal Group, Freeway and Powerfleet.
“Their contributions meant that we were able to cover much of the operating costs of the day and give as much money to charity as possible,” he adds. “Their generous contributions allowed the day to be an even bigger success than before.”
