Services commence less than three months after announcement; 44 vehicles already delivered

Alexander Dennis (ADL) is to deliver 92 buses for Go-Ahead Group subsidiary Go Cornwall Bus for its new tendered bus network. 44 vehicles have already been delivered.

Services for the Transport for Cornwall (TfC) network commenced on 29 March, less than three months after its announcement by Cornwall County Council.

Despite the short time period for delivery and high vehicle demand, the 44 Enviro200 single-deck buses were delivered in time for the start of services, which is operating on a reduced timetable during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

A further 48 buses, including 17 Enviro400 double-deckers, will follow. Completion is expected to be delayed by the suspension of production at ADL’s UK manufacturing sites in response to social distancing advice from the government.

Says Martin Brailey, Regional Sales Director London and the South at ADL: “Setting up the new TfC network in less than three months would have been a formidable task even without the impact of current events, but Go Cornwall Bus has fully risen to the challenge.

“We are proud to have been chosen to provide the new fleet. Our flexibility and ability to support customers’ requirements allowed us to have 44 of them ready in a matter of weeks.”

Managing Director at Go Cornwall Bus and Plymouth Citybus Richard Stevens adds: “A huge amount of work has gone into getting a brand-new fleet on the road for 29 March.

“We look forward to phase two and to TfC having the newest fleet in the country.”
