Scottish Citylink and its partner operators Parks of Hamilton and Stagecoach West Scotland have rolled out a £7 million investment in 18 Volvo 9700 DD double-deck coaches for route 900 between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
They are 81-seaters and “provide even greater comfort and quality for customers,” says Scottish Citylink. The new coaches were launched by the business and Lord Provost of Glasgow Jacqueline McLaren at the city’s Transport Museum on 14 April.
Specification includes USB-A and USB-C charging points, seats with three-point belts, drop-down tables and footrests, and a camera monitoring system in place of conventional mirrors. A panoramic roof benefits travellers on the upper deck.
The vehicles will be worked 24/7 on the Scottish Citylink 900 service, with departures every hour throughout the night seven days per week. Daytime headway is 15 minutes.
Scottish Citylink Managing Director Simone Walsh says: “This 18-strong brand-new fleet of vehicles is a huge investment in the route and is a real commitment from us to continually improve our offering to customers, and to continue to showcase coach travel as the most affordable and hassle-free way to travel between Scotland’s two largest cities.”
Scottish Citylink celebrates its 40th year in 2025, with a host of events planned to celebrate that milestone. Suitable decals for the anniversary are affixed to the new Volvo 9700 DD coaches.
Adds Lord Provost of Glasgow Ms McLaren: “Every citizen and visitor alike who uses the daily Glasgow to Edinburgh service will benefit from this investment in new coaches, adding comfort and joy – as well as digital connectivity – to their journey between our great cities.”
