HCT Group is in the final stages of talks that are set to see it take control of Manchester Community Transport (MCT), HCT Group Chief Executive Dai Powell has announced.

“We are delighted to welcome a community transport provider of such renown into the Group. We believe that we can help Manchester Community Transport achieve its potential, growing the organisation and increasing services,” says Mr Powell.

MCT has been active in Manchester since 1980. It provides community transport services across the region and it also carries out contracted bus work on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester, with 109 employees and a fleet of 67 vehicles.

The HCT Group describes itself as one of the UK’s most successful social enterprises. It has a fleet of 625 vehicles and it employs 1,200 staff, with operations extending from Yorkshire to the Channel Islands.

“By joining the HCT Group, we have the opportunity to expand our services and build on our track record of delivering for the community in Manchester,” adds MCT Managing Director Nigel McKinney,

“It makes sense for us to partner with a like-minded organisation, which shares our values and which is committing to improving transport for all.” All of MCT’s services will be maintained following completion of the deal.
