First Aberdeen is to place its fleet of hydrogen fuel cell-electric Wrightbus StreetDeck FCEVs into service on 28 January. They will be the first hydrogen-fuelled double-deckers to enter service anywhere in the world.
The 15 buses form part of an £8.3m project that has been funded by a variety of stakeholders, including the European Union through its JIVE mechanism. Individual vehicles each account for around £500,000 of that total.
Service 19 between Peterculter and Tillydrone will be the main haunt of the hydrogen StreetDeck FCEVs, although they will appear on other routes in Aberdeen. Each vehicle seats 60 passengers.
Says First Bus Scotland Managing Director Andrew Jarvis: “Scotland will be home to COP26 later this year and it is fantastic to know that we’ll be setting a stellar example of what can be achieved with new technology as we welcome leaders from around the world.”
