Adventure Travel has fitted all its double-decker buses and overdecker coaches with a low bridge warning system from GreenRoad.
That technology was activated on 4 November. It delivers an audible warning to the driver when one of those vehicles nears a low bridge to provide a safeguard for both the operator and its staff, and infrastructure.
Addition of the system sits against a background of potentially severe regulatory penalties for drivers and operators that are involved in a bridge strike. Significant cost and disruption can also be invoked by such an occurrence.
Says Managing Director Adam Keen (pictured, centre): “Bridge strikes by high-sided vehicles remain a significant concern across the UK. We understand that good practices, regular training and general awareness are crucial in preventing them.
“However, this technology brings additional peace of mind and acts as a further avoidance measure.
“Adventure Travel operates many rural bus routes in South Wales and provides long-distance coach trips for sports clubs, schools and universities around the UK, which makes this investment in safety essential to ensure smoother, safer journeys for everyone on the road.”
