Alfa Leisureplex Group (ALG), the parent company of Chorley-based coach operator Alfa Travel, has been accredited as a Real Living Wage (RWA) employer.
The voluntary commitment means all staff of the employee-owned group will be paid a minimum hourly wage of £12 per hour, regardless of age, during the 2024-25 financial year.
Operated by the Living Wage Foundation, RLW is higher than the legal National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW).
NLW for those aged age 21 or over is currently set at £11.44 per hour, while NMW for those of at least school leaving age is lower.
ALG owns 24 hotels in addition to Alfa Travel and has a total of 950 employees.
Emma Russell, Managing Director of the ALG, says: “As an employee-owned business our employees are the reason our customers return time and time again. We are committed to paying our employees a wage that makes them feel valued and appreciated, as well as ensuring it accurately reflects the real cost of living.
“For a number of years, we have been focused on improving the renumeration of our employees and, in 2024, we have invested a total of £2.7m in wages across the group. In addition to paying the Real Living Wage, we have also invested in pay for all of our employee owners, who received a minimum increase of 6% in April and we have also improved employee benefits and remain committed to making further improvements.”
ALG joins 15,000 other businesses on the accredited list across the UK, including: First Bus, Stagecoach London, Abellio London, Transport for London, Diamond North West, Metroline, Cardiff Bus, Shuttle Buses, National Express, Kineil Coaches, KT’s Coaches of Kendal, Stotts Tours (Oldham), Shandon Travel, Prentice Coaches and Longmynd Travel.
