One of the multi-operator digital platforms introduced by the Bus18 partnership in West Yorkshire, has been nominated and shortlisted for a 2018 National Transport Award.

The MCard App is among technologies invested in, developed and supported by Bus18 members First West Yorkshire, Arriva Yorkshire, Transdev Blazefield and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA).

The Android app was introduced just over 12 months ago by West Yorkshire Ticketing Company – a joint venture between bus and rail operators in West Yorkshire and WYCA – to enable passengers to buy their multi-operator bus, or multimodal bus and train ticket, and then upload it from their phone on to their MCard smartcard. More than 100,000 ticket transactions have already been made using it.

Another development is the Tracv.ly app, which provides journey planning, real-time service information and the option to purchase a multi-operator MCard DaySaver and Leeds Park and Ride ticket as mtickets.

Bus18 partners all offer their own technologies too, including journey planners, real time and mticket apps, explains Alex Hornby, Transdev Blazefield’s CEO.

“However, as partners of Bus18 we are all fully committed to going further, and lending our support to technologies that encompass all bus operator journeys and multi-operator ticketing.”
