Attend introductory day in October for more information on anti-bullying DCPC course
BUSK, the school transport safety campaigner, is launching its own Driver CPC course.
The seven-hour course, called Protecting Drivers and Pupils on the School Run, will be introduced to coach operators at a launch event at Arval UK in Swindon on 18 October.
Starting at 1000hrs, the day aims to provide an insight into the JAUPT-approved training course and drum up operators’ interest. Spaces are limited, charged at £20 to cover the cost of tea/coffee and lunch.
The new course highlights the role of the school bus driver as a source of protection for young passengers who may be victims of bullying, neglect or abuse. It outlines signs for drivers to look for that on their own may not appear to be of any significance, but if put together with other pieces of information, can help determine if a child or young person may be at risk.
The course also looks at protecting drivers on the school run, with advice on how to avoid being falsely accused of inappropriate behaviour, and how drivers can protect themselves. Drivers will learn about the importance of working with outside agencies including schools.
Pat Harris, Director of BUSK, says: “Drivers will have a better all-round understanding of the different types of bullying and abuse and how, as drivers, they have a vital role in ensuring that any concerns they have, no matter how insignificant they are felt to be, must be reported to the relevant body or person.”
