Transport UK London Bus has appointed David Cutts to the position of Managing Director amid a leadership overhaul.

With 37 years’ experience in the bus industry under his belt, Mr Cutts was MD of Go-Ahead London until April.

He replaces Jon Eardley, who has become MD at AllServiceOne for Wrightbus.

Meanwhile, Trevor Johnson is named Operations and HR Director, replacing Lorna Murphy, who has left to take over as Director of Buses at Transport for London. The management reshuffle also sees Alastair Willis installed as Commercial Director.

Meanwhile, Paul Hennigan becomes Fleet and Facilities Director, Adam Holden is named Finance Director and Sajid (‘Ziggy’) Chaudry is appointed Performance Director.

Mr Cutts began his career as a management trainee for London Buses in 1989. He served as a driver and inspector before being promoted to management roles for Go-Ahead.

He left his General Manager position in the capital to become Managing Director for Go-Ahead Singapore, where he was responsible for the first electric buses to operate there. Further managerial posts in Asia and the UK followed, before a brief freelance stint from April 2024 onwards.

Transport UK London Bus describes him as “a visionary within the industry” and the driving force behind the mobilisation of Go-North West.

In directing a team of 3000 staff, the operator says he will be responsible for driving continued domestic growth and innovation.

Dominic Booth, Chief Executive Officer at Transport UK Group, says: “Transport UK is delighted to welcome David Cutts as the new Managing Director of TUK London Bus. Like most of the leadership at TUK, David worked his way up through the ranks. With nearly 40 years working in public transport, he has extensive experience and a strong track record for delivering excellence.

“We are confident that under David’s leadership, TUK London Bus will continue to grow and deliver exceptional services to our customers. This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the company, and I look forward to the sustainable and innovative contributions David will provide.”

On taking up the role, Mr Cutts adds: “This is an incredibly exciting time for operators and the industry. I am delighted to lead a dedicated and skilled team at Transport UK London Bus, committed to delivering success for customers and stakeholders.

“The team at TUK London Bus has achieved a huge amount in the last three years; under my leadership, we will continue to grow the business and support the Mayor of London’s 2030 vision for zero-emission buses.”

Mr Willis’s promotion comes after six years as Head of Commercial, while Mr Hennigan moves from Oxford Bus Company where his 25 years culminated with his post as Fleet and Facilities Director.

Mr Holden has held previous finance roles the aerospace, transport and food industries over the last 20 years. Mr Chaudry has most recently been Area Performance General Manager at Go-Ahead London. Mr Johnson’s four decades-plus experience in the industry includes a period most recently as Area General at Go-Ahead London.
