DfT to examine BSOG zero-emission uplift in webinar

The Department for Transport (DfT) and Zemo Partnership will host a webinar on Tuesday 13 September that explores the 22p per km uplift to BSOG payments for zero-emission buses in England.

Opening at 1030hrs and running for one hour, the virtual event will be held on Microsoft Teams. It is aimed at individuals involved in the BSOG claim process, with a particular focus on members of operators’ finance departments. Local authority representatives are also invited to join, with no requirement to be a Zemo member for participation.

The session will begin with an introduction to the uplift before continuing to an explanation of the claim process, both delivered by DfT. After that, Zemo will examine the zero-emission bus documents required by OEMs before the webinar wraps up with a question-and-answer session.

To claim the uplift, operators require a zero-emission bus certificate and a vehicle summary sheet. Both can be downloaded from Zemo’s website. Zemo notes that the introduction of the uplift represents “a significant shift towards supporting the cost-effective operation of zero-emission buses,” stressing that a full description of the claim process will be provided during the webinar.

In announcing the zero-emission uplift to BSOG in April, DfT said that it is “temporary” ahead of plans to reform the grant stream that will “further accelerate the take-up of zero-emission buses.” The incentive payment applies to both buses that were built as zero-emission and those that are repowered.
