First Bus has teamed up with Unite the Union to create 12 new learning centres to offer skills development for up to 10,000 employees around the UK.
The scheme, which is also supported by RMT Union colleagues, will provide vocational and non-vocational training at six new learning centre hubs and six satellite sites.
Janette Bell, Managing Director at First Bus comments: “We’re delighted to open our new learning centres in collaboration with Unite the Union. This initiative is something that I’m personally really proud of, as we continue to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to our people, whilst supporting the local communities we serve.
“We’re pleased to be working with the trade unions to champion workforce wellbeing, as well as enhancing accessibility and opportunities through inclusive learning.”
It follows a learning agreement last summer between First Bus and the union which was facilitated by the National Joint Consultative Forum.
Scott Higgins, Chair of the National Joint Consultative Forum (NJCF), added: “The signing of the l learning partnership agreement was a significant step forward in August 2024 and a confirmation of the unique relationship between First Bus and Unite the Union in regard to education.
“Education is the foundation of our trade union movement as it provides the means for our members to establish a clear understanding and embrace ever-changing technologies.
“We are proud to work together with an employer who recognises the value and worth of its employees. First Bus is prepared to invest heavily not just financially but also providing the means and support for individual progression within our industry.”
