Brighton and Hove, East Yorkshire, Go North West and Metrobus are among the Go-Ahead subsidiaries that will offer free travel on their buses for current serving members of the armed forces and veterans on Remembrance Sunday, 14 November.
Go North West will also offer the same courtesy on Remembrance Day, Thursday 11 November. It says that the gesture is in recognition of those who have given their lives in military service and the number of drivers, engineers and administrators on its payroll that are ex-military.
Says Marketing and Communications Manager Matt Harrison: “We are proud to have many ex-military personnel working with us here at Go North West and in the wider bus industry.
“As the nation prepares to honour those who fought for our freedom, we hope that by offering free travel to serving forces and veterans, we can help to bring people closer together as we get ready to remember and reflect.”
Adds East Yorkshire Area Director Ben Gilligan: “Bus driving is a popular career choice for those leaving the armed forces, so many of our team have served in the military and know what sacrifices our soldiers, sailors and aviators have made. Last year many remembrance parades could not happen, so this year we would like to make sure that all veterans who want to can attend to pay their respects to those we lost.”
