The Confederation of Passenger Transport Cymru (CPT) has given a warm welcome to the Welsh Government’s announcement of network funding to boost bus travel in Wales.

The Cabinet Secretary for Economy & Infrastructure, Ken Skates AM, has made almost £3m available to fund schemes to improve bus reliability and reduce journey times by helping accessibility, congestion and integration between modes of transport.

John Pockett, Director of CPT Cymru:  “A step in the right direction”

John Pockett, Director of CPT Cymru says:  “This announcement is very welcome and a step in the right direction. We are pleased that the Welsh Government recognises that congestion is a major problem facing operators and we look forward to working with them to identify other schemes that could make the passenger journey better.”

The 2017-18 Local Transport Network Fund projects are:

£1m – Swansea; strategic bus corridors and public transport hubs

  • £600,000 – Rhondda Cynon Taf A4119/A4059 bus corridor improvements
  • £617,000 – Neath Port Talbot integrated transport package
  • £425,000 – TrawsCymru Corridor; passenger enhancements
  • £100,000 – B5129 strategic bus corridor; passenger growth developments
  • £15,500 – Abersychan junction improvements
