McGill’s, Scotland’s largest independent bus operator, has entered into a partnership with the Transport Benevolent Fund (TBF) with it paying for all of its drivers to be TBF members.

It is the first Scottish operator to do this. The cost is £1 per member, per week.

Drivers at all five garages across west central Scotland will immediately have access to the wide range of financial, health and welfare benefits available to TBF members.

MD Ralph Roberts says: “We think
the scheme is an excellent benefit for our employees, and we are delighted to ensure they receive all the support available to them through TBF.

“We’re very aware that a driving job these days can be very stressful, and we are constantly aiming to assist our staff in any way we can.”

Christine Wark, TBF Organiser for Scotland, said, “I am so pleased that an industry leader such as McGill’s has become the first Scottish operator to decide to meet the costs of TBF membership for its staff. Wherever I travel throughout Scotland I am finding an increasing awareness for the need to help improve members’ work-life balance and opportunities for the employer to reduce staff turnover. I hope other employers will realise the advantages of TBF membership, and follow McGill’s lead.”

TBF will be very pleased to hear from other operators who would
be interested in joining the growing number of employers who
are partnering directly with the charity to provide the benefits of membership to their staff.

The cost of membership remains just £1 per week, covering the member, their partner and dependent children, and brings eligibility for help in a wide range of situations if need, hardship or distress should arise.
