Go South Coast business Morebus is bidding to attract additional home-to-work travellers to its services with the debut of a Commuter Club. Its introduction has come with the help of Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) funding.
The operator is collaborating with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council and participating local businesses to give discounted bus travel across that region under the scheme.
A modest annual membership fee is payable by employers based on the number of employees they have. In return, those staff will benefit from £1 bus tickets that can be bought in bundles of 20. Initially up to five such bundles can be purchased, with further bundles offering a saving of 20% on full-price travel.
Head of Communications Nikki Honer says that the Commuter Club approach from Morebus is intended to reduce congestion in the BCP area. She notes that over the past 12 months the operator has added 55 new double-decker buses to its fleet to replace single-deckers and deliver more capacity, including 28 for the flagship m1 and m2 corridor.
“With more people now working part-time or within a hybrid working week, we expect this initiative to be well-received by all those who work for participating companies,” adds Ms Honer.
“The obvious advantages are, of course, cheaper commuting costs – but also the health benefits of taking extra exercise by walking before or after the bus trip. We are looking forward to working with local businesses and to welcoming more people onboard through our new Commuter Club over the coming months.”
Adds Cllr Andy Hadley: “We are keen to encourage commuters onto the bus to help cut congestion at peak time. This ticket offer provides a flexible solution at a bargain starting price of just £1 per journey.
“We would encourage companies to get involved, and everyone to give the bus a try.”
