National Express West Midlands is evaluating a Scania Alexander Dennis Enviro400CBG biogas-powered double-decker as part of its work to familiarise itself with alternative energy sources.
“We know the theory behind biogas, and we believe it’s a very clean option,” says National Express UK Engineering Director Bernie Cassidy.
“My engineers are very keen to test the biogas vehicle in real world conditions. NEWM buses work hard; they can cover over 200 miles per day before refuelling.
“Running the bus for a few weeks in service will give my team valuable information and experience that will help to inform the choice of what vehicles to buy for tomorrow’s fleet.”
The demonstrator has been used on various routes in the West Midlands.
