Robin Hood Travel of Rudyard, Staffordshire, is to close operations after more than 65 years in business.
Directors Christine Rose and David Eyre, who took over the business from parents Ron and Mary Eyre, have decided to retire.
Vehicles and garage contents will be auctioned off on 30 August, after which local operators will take over operation of remaining scheduled excursions.
Robin Hood Travel, which was established in around 1958, offers private hire plus UK and overseas trips, and also services private vehicles.
The operator says that sale of the business was not considered as the family members live in three houses on the site.
In a letter to customers last month, Christine wrote: “After much thought and consideration, David and I have made the difficult decision to close the doors on Robin Hood Travel Ltd.”
She added: “This company has been a huge part of our lives – and we are incredibly proud of everything it has achieved. Robin Hood Travel’s success would not have been possible without the dedication of the best staff any company could hope for. They truly are ‘Team Robin Hood’ and we are endlessly grateful for their commitment, hard work and loyalty.
“To you – our loyal customers – we owe a heartfelt thank you. Your support over the years has meant the world to us. Together, we’ve shared unforgettable journeys, made wonderful memories and built lasting friendships.”
Speaking of the reaction to the news, she tells routeone: “Our customers have been great – the cards we’ve had have been amazing.”
