Scania employees from across the United Kingdom have taken part in a 60 mile challenge during September, raising more than £2,700 for official charity partner Cancer Research UK.

The challenge involved employees covering a sponsored 60 mile walk at an average rate of two miles a day throughout September. Employees logged daily miles on the company’s employee app, Scania World, where they could also share images.

Scania Community, the manufacturer’s fundraising and volunteering engagement programme, supported the challenge. The programme aims to encourage Scania’s 1,500 plus employees to participate in volunteering and fundraising activities.

“We are a new corporate partner of Cancer Research UK, so this was a great first activity for our employees to take part in,” says Angie Lawrence-Scott, Scania (Great Britain) Head of Corporate Communications. “I personally participated in this challenge and found it to be a very motivational experience, encouraging me to walk or run each day to raise money and helping me to get fitter at the same time.

“Most of us know someone affected by cancer and this drives you to want to support this charity and help them to find a cure. I am delighted that we have raised more than £2,700 – and this is just the start, we hope to raise lots more as we continue our partnership and invite our employees to get involved in regular fundraising activities.”
