Stagecoach South West will operate a battery-electric bus as part of a multi-modal excursion in South Devon combining road, river, ferry, and heritage steam railway travel.
Through a partnership with Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company, the double-decker bus will cover the 20-minute leg from Paignton to Totnes as part of the “Round Robin” ticket offer.
Contrasting historic travel with the latest green technology, the excursion also includes a steam train journey from Kingswear to Paignton. The journey aboard a 1950s coal-fired steam locomotive forms part of the Dartmouth Steam Railway.
The day trip also includes a river cruise from Totnes to Dartmouth and a ferry crossing from Dartmouth to Kingswear.
Peter Knight, Managing Director, Stagecoach South West, says: “We’re absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with such an iconic and much-loved heritage line.
“To see one of our fully electric buses seamlessly integrated into the Round Robin experience alongside the steam railway is incredibly exciting.
“It brings together the best of modern sustainable transport and historic travel in a way that truly enhances the journey for customers.”
John Jones, Managing Director, Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company, adds: “The Round Robin has always been about showcasing the best of the River Dart and South Devon.
“Seeing our historic steam railway working alongside modern electric transport highlights how tradition and innovation can complement each other to create a truly unique visitor journey.”
