Sightseeing operator Tootbus London has switched all its vehicles away from fossil fuels to 100% reliance on renewable energy sources. Use of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) has achieved the milestone for the RATP Dev subsidiary.
In addition, the company says that older buses within its fleet are to undergo retrofit to battery-electric propulsion to complement two existing open-toppers that it operates in London that are thus powered. Tootbus London also runs services in Windsor.
Use of HVO reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 90%. Tootbus London Managing Director Gavin Brooking notes that customers “are increasingly factoring sustainability into their tourism trips” and that the operator’s move to using environmentally friendly fuel “will help visitors to rediscover cities by offering green transport to all.”
The Union Jack-based livery of Tootbus has been updated with green ‘planet friendly’ signage to recognise the shift away from fossil fuel. The operator adds that it is the only “very low emission player in London.”
