Transport uniform company Jermyn Street Design has been Highly Commended in the Professional Clothing Awards.

The Great Western Railway (GWR) range, featured in the ‘Business Manager of the Year’ category, the event’s premier award.

Uniform unveiled at a special catwalk show, and modelled by GWR employees

The uniform was unveiled at a special catwalk show during Bath in Fashion, modelled by GWR employees.

The key to the success of the design, and its ultimate sign off, was staff engagement in the whole uniform development process.

Over 3,800 station and on-board staff were issued with the new ‘feel good’ workwear, which comprises of 55 different product styles in all.

As well as the new uniform, last year also saw GWR complete the biggest investment on the Great Western network in more than a generation, with new and refurbished trains on every part of the network.

Susanne Malim, Founder and Managing Director for Jermyn Street Design, says: “Our brief was to create cutting-edge designs that capture the great 19th century heritage of GWR within a contemporary uniform that is entirely relevant to modern rail travel.”

The uniforms are made from a subtle tweed mix of different greens combined with a hint of blue, tailored into a classic style that won’t date.

All the old uniforms were either recycled or up-cycled, with as many as 10,000 pieces of clothing either provided to prison service textile workshops, or converted into liquid fuel.
