Women in Bus and Coach has launched an ambassador programme. It celebrates individuals who have made exceptional contributions to advancing gender equity and inclusivity within the coach, bus and community transport sectors.
Inaugural ambassador recognition has gone to Transport for Greater Manchester Chief Transformation Officer Anne Marie Purcell (pictured, left). That is to honour what Women in Bus and Coach says is “her unwavering commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for women in the sector.”
Announcement of the ambassador programme was made at the Women in Bus and Coach parliamentary reception on 16 December. That event highlighted the progress made by the group across its first year since launch while also acknowledging the steps still needed to foster gender inclusivity within the industry.
Sector leaders, policymakers and advocates were brought together in Parliament, with the stage set for continued progress. Women in Bus and Coach Chair Louise Cheeseman (pictured, right) presented Ms Purcell with the opening ambassador recognition during the gathering.
Ms Cheeseman describes the ambassador approach as “our way of shining a spotlight on those who champion inclusivity and equity in our industry” and adds that Ms Purcell’s work “exemplifies the leadership we need to see.”
Adds Ms Purcell: “I am deeply honoured to be recognised as the first Women in Bus and Coach ambassador.
“Supporting women across the industry is a passion of mine, and I believe that fostering an inclusive environment benefits everyone. This programme is a fantastic way to celebrate those making a difference, and I look forward to seeing its impact grow across the sector.”
Women in Bus and Coach adds a hope that the recognition of influential figures such as Ms Purcell will further encourage others to advocate for diversity and inclusivity.
