Free bus travel is low value for money: DfT

A Department for Transport (DfT) study concludes that the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme offers low value for money. It expresses concerns about its on-going affordability against a background of an ageing population.

The study analysed data from the National Travel Survey, the DfT’s bus use statistics and academic literature.

It admits that the broader benefits such as health and wellbeing are not measured.
