Arriva in Tamworth has donated funds raised during its 90th Anniversary celebrations to Samuel Johnson Hospital’s Renal Unit, to say thank you for its continued care of its bus driver Tony Chaplain.
The business raised £1,010 at its open day in August 2018, selling memorabilia to mark 90 years since its Aldergate premises first opened.
The depot management team decided that the Lichfield-based facility would be the ideal recipient of the cash, based on its care of Tony, 46, who has chronic kidney disease.
Tony says: “The team in Tamworth have always been aware of my condition and have shown continuous support of me, even when my previous kidney transplant which I had when I was a teenager began to fail.
“To be able to still work and contribute while undergoing treatment benefits both my mental and physical wellbeing a huge amount, and the understanding and compassion that the management at Arriva has shown me has been brilliant.”
Ben Law, Duty Manager at Arriva Tamworth, says: “Tony is a much-loved part of the Arriva Tamworth family, so selecting the Samuel Johnson Hospital Renal Unit as our charity wasn’t a difficult choice.
“They give him such brilliant care, which allows him the freedom to continue doing what he does best, offering amazing customer service to the people Tamworth.”
