Two drivers from Stagecoach’s Dunfermline depot have taken top honours at this year’s Stagecoach East Scotland Bus Driver of the Year (BDoY)Â competition, with Aleksei Solovjov named overall winner and colleague Stuart Grubb close behind in second place.
The regional contest tests participants’ technical knowledge, driving skill and road awareness through practical and theoretical challenges. This year’s event built on strong internal competition, with Aleksei improving on his second-place finish in 2023 to take the top title.
Both Aleksei and Stuart will now go on to represent Stagecoach East Scotland at the national BDoY final in Blackpool, on Sunday 14 September. There they will compete against top drivers from across the UK in a three-mile driving assessment followed by a live-traffic circuit along Blackpool’s Promenade.
Says David Frenz, Interim Managing Director at Stagecoach East Scotland: “We’re extremely proud of Aleksei and Stuart for finishing in the top two places in the East Scotland Driver of the Year competition and we can’t wait to cheer them on in Blackpool this September.
“The competition is a great chance to recognise and reward the efforts of our drivers each year. I would like to give a special thank you to Kenneth Dowie, Graeme Gilfillan, and Angus Dakers from our Training Team for all their hard work and in running the event this year.”
