McGills Bus Group signs Armed Forces Covenant

McGill’s Bus Group has signed the Armed Forces Covenant. The operator has thus formally committed to supporting local armed forces communities across Scotland and ensuring that those who serve or have served are treated fairly.

Signing the Covenant puts McGill’s among more than 10,000 organisations in multiple sectors that have made such a pledge, which extends to serving personnel, veterans and reservists, and their families.

It complements measures already observed by McGill’s, which include free travel on all buses for serving military personnel and engagement with armed forces charities and recruitment drives. To that end, the operator is an armed forces-friendly employer and says that it “recognises military skills and qualifications in our recruitment and selection process.”

Many former servicepeople are employed by McGill’s across various areas of its business and it works with the Career Transition Partnership to support provision of jobs for service leavers.

Speaking about its commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, McGill’s Group Managing Director Alex Hornby says: “We recognise the contribution that service personnel, both regular and reservist, and veterans and military families, make to our organisation, our community, and to the country, which is why we are committed to upholding the Armed Forces Covenant.

“As a nation, we have a duty to ensure that those who have helped to keep us safe, and their families, are treated fairly and supported in their endeavours.

“The armed forces community possesses a wealth of skills, talent, and experience that will be invaluable as we look to build our workforce of the future.”
