Stagecoach has formed a partnership with Age UK as its flagship charity partner and kickstarted that by donating £100,000.
Such a move follows the group’s pledge to donate up to 0.5% of profit before tax each year to charity and other good causes across the UK via a Giving for Good community fund. The money will help Age UK to continue its provision of practical support to older people.
Establishing clear targets to foster community development through charitable activities forms part of the Stagecoach sustainability strategy, via which the 0.5% commitment was made in 2021.
Age UK has a free national advice line, a telephone friendship service, and The Silver Line Helpline that can be called for free-of-charge advice, support and friendship.
Stagecoach CEO Claire Miles (pictured, right) met with Age UK representatives in August to discuss the opportunities that the partnership presents. “As our flagship charity partner, we are planning to collaborate in many ways to support older people across the UK,” says Ms Miles.
“With depot locations across the UK, I am optimistic that Stagecoach’s partnership with Age UK will truly flourish and benefit the local communities we jointly serve.”
Adds Age UK Interim Fundraising and Engagement Director Hannorah Lee: “We are delighted that Stagecoach shares our vision of a world where all older people are included and valued.
“Its generous donation will help us be here today for older people through our vital services. It will also change public attitudes to ageing to benefit us all in future years.
“This partnership is about so much more than funding. By acting together and using all our shared assets, we aim to make a practical difference to older people through Stagecoach’s business and in communities nationwide.”
