MAN Senior Bus and Coach Sales Executive Matt Jacob and his fiancée Caroline Bretherton will take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge as part of MAN Truck and Bus UK’s support for the charity Mental Health Awareness.
That hard work will be done on 14 June and it has been christened Mind of Mountains by Mr Jacob, who is a strong advocate of mental health care.
The task will see the couple climb Ingleborough (2,372ft), Pen-y-Ghent (2,277ft) and Whernside (2,415ft) in the Pennines, with a plan to complete the challenge within 12 hours.
Mr Jacob notes that one in four members of the population experience a mental health problem each year but that help is often lacking. Mind aims to assist more people via support and information helplines, an online community, and locally.
Training for the challenge has been ongoing for some time. A £500 fundraising target via a JustGiving page is in place, with the total donated sitting at £470 at the time of writing.
In 2024, Mr Jacob was part of an MAN Truck and Bus UK team that tackled the National Three Peaks Challenge across two days. He and around 20 colleagues supported the Alzheimer’s Society in those efforts.
Earlier this year, MAN Truck and Bus UK selected Mind as its fundraising partner for 2025 and 2026. It cited that decision as being based on strong employee support for the cause, with many staff having personal connections to the charity.
At the time the Mind partnership was announced, People and Culture Director Catherine Brown noted that it was selected following engagement with staff seeking suggestions.
“It came as no surprise that the most talked about charity was Mind,” she says. “The decision to support Mind was personal for many employees and we were thoroughly impressed by the heartwarming passion and admiration surrounding this life-supporting charity.”
