RE: Tough old bird

1. ‘I was driving a Ford R1112 with a Duple Viceroy Body fitted with top sliding windows, and a pheasant had flown in’

[118]

The article in last weeks edition [routeone/whisperer/22 March] about the pheasant reminded me of an incident when in my youth driving for the then Happy Wanderer Tours of Didcot. I was taking a group of pensioners on an afternoon excursion to Banbury when a sudden commotion in the back of the coach brought me to a halt near Tackley on the A4260.

I was driving a Ford R1112 with a Duple Viceroy Body fitted with top sliding windows, and a pheasant had flown in through the opening with ensuing mayhem – there were OAPs and feathers flying in all directions!

The bird was dispatched by one of the group and taken home for dinner. Ah, the good old days.
