Chevin MD Ashley Sowerby: ‘Consider whether your software is secure’

Fleet management software must be ready to respond to new technological advancements as ‘smart’ vehicles start to flood the market, with a primary focus on the importance of data security, says specialist in the field Chevin.

Chevin points out that autonomous and connected vehicles will become increasingly popular, so it’s important that software adapts simultaneously to support increased levels of data and tighter security measures.

“There are many important factors for businesses to consider when managing their fleet information, the first of which should be whether their software system is adequately secure,” says MD Ashley Sowerby (pictured)

“Official accreditation, such as ISO 27100, formally acknowledges that providers are committed to data protection issues, and software companies should be striving to achieve these accreditations if they don’t already have them in place.”

He adds that Chevin currently holds data on more than 1m vehicles that are managed via its FleetWave software. “It is our responsibility to ensure that our database has the appropriate levels of protection and monitoring in place to prevent unauthorised access.

“We naturally refuse all information requests, but there is an appetite for those details.”
